News From the Coordinators

Hope you enjoyed a good Fourth of July weekend! Thanks to those who helped us begin it with a tremendous training day at Aztec and Salmon; in spite of the heat, it was well-attended, enjoyable, and educational. Two more training events are in the works for this season.

The park’s summer crowds are here, and the Visitor Center staff and visitors appreciate our presence there; please consider helping there or at Cliff Palace in July and August. In addition, volunteers are needed to staff the park’s booths at several local celebrations: at Mancos on July 23, 24, and 25; at Cortez on July 28 through 31; and in Durango on August 11 through 15.

In other signs of summer, the park has again offered volunteers the chance to staff the fire tower during the next several weeks, and the solar scope is up and running, making a weekly appearance on the Visitor Center porch. There are fires in the area and significant sun spot activity, and both of these have brought lots of visitor interest.

Thanks to those who worked so hard on the CCC trails around the Rec Hall; they look great, and your efforts are appreciated by everyone at the park.

We encourage you to explore the website to learn what we do and how to join us. We can always use more volunteers.
